Being Brown at Work

Sep 22, 2021

When I was growing up, the main gap or challenge that existed was education inequality.

Today, the divide still exists but is greater due to the rise of technology.

The digital divide is a major gap for children of color who predominantly attend public schools. It is critical that we put intentional focus and effort into bridging the gap, to prepare Black and Brown youth to fill the pipeline in adulthood.

In this episode of the podcast, I am honored to have Monica Woodson, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan as my guest.

We will discuss the gaps that exist in the workplace, be it nonprofit or for profit companies, and the work that is needed to fill the pipeline.

As CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, Monica works in the nonprofit space where the same disparaging percentages exist for Black and Brown CEOs.

Monica has an extensive background in nonprofit programming and leadership, and significant experience working with organizations serving young people including Girl Scouts.

She maintains her commitment to serving the community as a volunteer for the National Conference of Artists –Michigan Chapter, and serving on the board of Southwest Solutions Counseling, and Advisory Board of the Citizen’s Research Council of Michigan, and the Changing Children’s Worlds Foundation of Illinois.
